Spotlight: Heavy Duty Snips
With a variety of Okatsune Snips available, we decided we’d like to put a spotlight on our Okatsune Heavy Duty Snips.
People may ask what the difference is between these and our standard set of Snips we offer. Although all our Snips are made with the same Izumo Yasugi Steel which is a high carbon steel, the main difference is that the blades thickness on our Heavy Duty Snips is 3.3mm as opposed to our standard snips blade thickness of 2.3mm.
They are a minimalistic design, and crafted without unnecessary moving parts to break, the loaded spring handles make them incredibly resilient and even though these are known as our Heavy Duty Snips, they fit nicely in your hands and are incredibly light to work with.
With a black steel design and a leather closure for the handles, the metal handles are non slip meaning you have complete control over them when in use. These Snips do not have the red and white handles associated with our range of Okatsune Tools, and this has been done to differentiate between the Snips we offer.
Our Heavy Duty Snips do just what they say, and unlike our Red and White Okatsune Snips are able to cut more than just soft stems. Unlike just using them for delicate floristry you can use them to cut thicker stems with ease without causing damage, they make easy work of light pruning of anything that is between a soft and woody stem. The reason being is the blade is thicker and can withstand doing some tougher cuts, as long as you aren’t making them do the work of a pair of Secateurs, which you should always use to cut woody, thick stems.
The Heavy Duty Snips are perfect for harvesting tough vegetables such as squash, as well as trimming back perennials and shrubs. You can also use these snips to trim Bonsai. They are also perfect for thinning to remove unwanted or overcrowded growth. They will cut out selected shoots or branches to let light and air into the inner parts of shrubs, as their pointed blades help to give precise cuts in difficult to reach spots.
They offer sharpness, simplicity and strength and if they are well maintained after each use by cleaning them and drying them carefully, along with sharpening the blades from time to time, you will extend their life. Their capabilities for what they can do will mean they will be your perfect companion in the garden for lots of different gardening tasks.
