Pruning in September

September is always a busy time in the garden, with the start of Autumn creeping into our lives there is always a long to do list waiting to get the garden ready for winter.

It is the perfect time to trim conifer hedges to control their height and neaten them up for next season. Removing old growth from your plants is also something that should be on your to do list as this helps you get ahead of the game coming into the winter season. Most of the plants that have been flowering through summer will need some TLC - cut back dead steams to prevent any diseases from taking ahold of the plants.

Other jobs that need attention are pruning and thinning out fruit bushes. Apple trees will need some specific attention too as they will need to be pruned in order to encourage good fruiting next year.
